A native of Evansville, IN, she was born on Nov. 15, 1932, to Edwin G. and Mildred Feller. She was the eldest daughter of 11 children, including six daughters and five sons. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was fond of the times she spent growing up on her father’s farm and watching the next generation gather there as well.
On Aug. 25, 1956, she wed the love of her life, Herrmann H. Stephens. Together they shared nearly 40 years of marriage and three children: Daniel Alan, Lynne Ann, and Joseph Michael. Clara spent most of her life raising her children. She later assisted her daughter, Lynne, at her children’s furniture business. Clara found her happiness in supporting her family’s endeavors and attending their many events throughout her life.
A devout Catholic, Clara was a former parishioner of St. Benedict’s, Holy Rosary and St. Mary’s Catholic churches while she lived in Evansville. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church in Brownsburg at the time of her death.
In the late 1990s, Clara relocated to Indianapolis to be nearer to her children and grandchildren after the death of her husband. She enjoyed being able to spend time with her grandchildren and watching them grow.
Clara is survived by her children as well as her grandchildren . She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and five of her siblings.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 4-7 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue, Evansville, IN 47714, followed by a memorial service beginning at 7p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 1:00-1:30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 613 Cherry Street, Evansville, IN 47713. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the church.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
