James P. Crouse, 97, of Harrisburg, passed away on Sunday December 18, 2016 at Harrisburg Hospital.

Born on September 8, 1919 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Edmund and Blanche (Craig) Crouse, and he was the widower of Ruth L. (Swartzwellar) Crouse.

James was a graduate of Steelton High School and he was the football manager for the class of 1937. He was a Sargent and radio operator in the US Army during WWII. James was retired from Bethlehem Steel in Steelton, where he worked for 36 years in the open hearth. He was a member of the Paxton Presbyterian Church and was a Mason at the Harrisburg-Snyder Lodge No. 629.

He is survived by his son, Steven C. Crouse, Sr., of Mechanicsburg and his wife Linda, of Camp Hill, three grandchildren, Jared A. Myers, of Mechanicsburg; Steven C. Crouse, Jr. and his fiancé, Ginny Finn, of Middletown; and Jessica Stewart, of Camp Hill, one great granddaughter, Raven King, of Mechanicsburg.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three sons, Mark, David, and Thomas Crouse, a brother Harold Crouse, two sisters, Esther and Mary Funk, and a granddaughter, Angela Lynn Crouse.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday December 21, 2016 from 8:30 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. in the Myers-Harner Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, immediately followed by burial with military honors held in Shoops Cemetery, Harrisburg. A memorial service will be held following the burial at 11:30 A.M. in the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, 101 N. 23rd St., Camp Hill, with Rev. John Green and Rev. Dr. David Roquemore officiating.
