Ray was born in Wayne County, NC on December 2, 1925 to the late Walter Cook and Annie Carraway Cook. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. Ray was employed for thirty four years with E. I. DuPont. He was a member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Ray had also served on the Trust Board of the church. He was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Mike McAuley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Inurnment will be Thursday at 3:00 PM in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Ray is survived by his daughters, Judy Schuster and husband Dan of Denver, NC, Sandra Rich of Kernersville and Tammy Hamlett and husband Jeff of Goldsboro; son, Donald Elton Bryan and wife Janice of Snow Hill; step-daughters, Lisa Ezzell-Weeks and husband Danny of Grantham and Dana Ezzell of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his wives, Ruby Jones Cook and Margie Pugh Cook; sister, Katie Cook Best and brothers, George, Walter Jr., Don and Frank; and son-in-law, Edward T. Rich.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Berkeley Blvd and his caregivers, Peggy Barnes, Jeanne Scarboro and Gayle Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Victory Free Will Baptist Church, 1806 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
