Life of Marcus N. Fouts:
Mark moved along with his family to Chattanooga and was one of Chattanooga's early settlers.
Mark along with his brother Oliver were apprentices in the brickmaking trade when they were young. They wanted to learn the trade. The peculiar things about this yard was that the way they made the mortar for brickmaking. They dug and threw up a ring of mud, hauled water and poured on it, then put in oxen to tramp the mud.

Eventually, they gave up that career and the two brothers were associated with the Hotel business.

In my research, we were not able to establish much about Mark. He was last listed in the 1881 Chattanooga City Directory. But we do know he died prior to 1894. Mark's name is on page 23 and 54 of the Book, "City of Chattanooga".

He is buried along with his Father and Mother at the Citizen's Cemetery on Third Street, Chattanooga, Tennessee across from the School for Arts and Sciences.
