He retired in 1981 after 31 years from Conrail as a car repairman. As a teenager and prior to serving with the United States Army during WW II in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater, he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Wyoming and Colorado. Leslie was a member of Rusty Rails. He was the widower of Cora R. Miller Gregory to whom he was married on June 16, 1951 and who died June 22, 2002.
Survivors include his daughters Joyce Donathen of Franklin, Indiana & Bonnie Shepherd of Spencer, Indiana; half-sisters Nancy McGann & Martha Beagle both of Bowling Green, Kentucky; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
