Florence Texeira Sanders of Rolla, Missouri passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the age of 92. Florence was born in Kona, Hawaii on October 10, 1924 to the late Antone and Evangeline (DeGuair) Texeira.
Florence was raised on the Kona Island of Hawaii and graduated high school there. That is where she met the love of her life and soon to be husband, Garmal Sanders, who was stationed there. The two were married on February 9, 1946 in California; this union was blessed with two children. Once Garmal was out of the military he moved his family back to his home town of Mountain Grove, Missouri, where they opened their grocery store, Sanders Grocery. They ran the family business for four years before selling it and moving to Rolla, Missouri where Florence took a job with the United States Geological Service where she worked until her retirement. She was a devote Catholic and was very active in the St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles, playing bingo and doing any kind of arts and crafts. She was a loving mother and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Florence Sanders is survived by her two children, Gary (Kay) Sanders and Lorna (Anton “Tony”) Holm all of Rolla, MO; grandchildren, Terry Sanders and Wendy Bullock; great-grandchildren, Andrew Black, Stephen Sanders, Christopher Sanders, Trenton Bullock and Ashley Gildehaus; great-great-grandchildren, Anthony Black, Zakk Sanders, Sophia Bullock, Mila Sanders and McKinley Bullock; four sisters, Dorothy (Richard) Weddle of Columbia, MO, Midge (Steve) DenHerder of Chesapeake Bay, VA, Adeline Helms of Gadsen, AL and Norma Ching of Honolulu, HI. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Garmal Sanders; two brothers, Ernest and Herbert Texeira; two sisters, Mabel Depew and Alice Wolfe.
Funeral Mass for Florence Sanders will be held at 10:00AM Monday, December 19, 2016 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rolla, Missouri with Father Doke officiating. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery in Rolla, MO. Visitation for family and friends will be at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 2-4PM with prayer service at 1:30PM. Memorials are suggested to the Pregnancy Resource Center of Phelps County. Cards are available at all James & Gahr locations.
