PFC Napolen Kelly Cooper, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Rocky Mount, NC. The spelling on his Headstone is incorrect based on Military Records.

Private First Class Napolen Kelly Cooper was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, PFC Cooper served our country until February 14th, 1967 in Kontum, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Napolen died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. PFC Cooper is on panel 15E, line 027 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

I was only 12 days old when you sacrificed all for our country. You are a true American hero. I thank you for your service to this great country. I still live in Rocky Mount, NC and I wish you did too. I wish I knew more about you personally. Rest in peace my friend. Greg Gay.

I was a member of Delta Company 1/8th Cavalry. I was with Cooper on the day that he was killed. We held our Memorial Service this year in Houston, Texas. I lit the candle for Delta Company and I never have a Valentines Day since 1967 that I don't think of you, Cunningham and the other 5 lost that tragic day. Your brother, George "Baby Huey" Goswick. He is the Son of Mr Kelly Welburn Cooper and Mrs Rosa Burgess Cooper, 817 Pearl Street, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, 27601.

He served with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division(AMBL), USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
