Lucy Jefferson Lewis, only sister of Thomas Jefferson, author of Declaration of Independence and third president of US. She was born in 1752, Albemarle Co., Va. Came to Ky., 1808, with her husband Dr. Charles L. Lewis, who served in Revolution, and their six children. Mrs. Lewis died in 1811, was buried near her home.
Dr. Charles Lilburn Lewis, a grandson of Colonel Robert Lewis, married Lucy Jefferson, sister of Thomas Jefferson. She is buried near Kentucky Lake, a few miles East out of Paducah, on U.S. Highway 60. There the Lucy Jefferson Lewis Memorial Bridge spans the Cumberland River and on the road side is a granite shaft marking the grave of the only sister of President Jefferson.
