Mr Armstrong was born February 8, 1946 in Heard County to the late Louis Cliff Armstrong and Glimmer Lena Wilson Armstrong. He was a Baptist by faith.
He served his country in the army during the Vietnam era, and was stationed in Germany. After his service, he worked for the Department of Transportation as an inspector.
A simple man, Mr. Armstrong felt mostly at home tending his farm. He especially loved anything to do with John Deere tractors. His favorite times were spent taking care of his cows. If you visited him, he was likely to carry on a conversation sitting on the back of his pickup truck. He also loved spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include: son, James H. Armstrong, Jr.; grandson, Tyler Armstrong; step-son, Bryan Ball (Jennifer); step-grandchildren Zachary Ball, Brianna Ball, Abigail Pope and Deacon Pope; all of Franklin; and a number of other relatives and friends
