Her radiant smile and bright eyes would liven any room she entered. Her caring spirit led her to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated from what is now the University of the Incarnate Word in 1978. She was a recipient of a US Public Health Service scholarship in 1977 and was commissioned in the USPHS upon graduation. With the USPHS she served in Zuni, New Mexico.

After service in New Mexico, she served in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps for 28 years. The highlights of her Air Force career include command positions at the squadron and medical group levels. She was also Director of Nursing Education at Brooks AFB, Vice Commander and Commander for the School of Aerospace Medicine, and Vice Wing Commander at Brooks AFB. She also served as Chief Nurse Officer and Vice Wing Commander at Wilford Hall during her last Air Force assignment. Her immediate past position was Director of Life Long Learning, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) School of Nursing.

She is survived by her husband, one son, her mother, one brother, one sister, one stepson and many nieces and nephews.
In addition, she is survived by her sister from another mother.
