Melissa Anne Edwards, age 36, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016, after a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig Disease).

Missy was born October 8, 1980, in San Diego, California to parents, William and Anita.

She enjoyed cooking and creating new recipes. Missy liked being outdoors, whether it was relaxing around the campfire or dancing at an outdoor festival. She had a magnetic personality and was blessed with many friends. She couldn’t get through a day without her Mountain Dew and she had an affinity for horror movies.

Missy is survived by her son, Dexter Weir; mother, Anita Lowe; father, William Edwards (Linda); sister, Cathy Stevens (Brad Bieghler); grandparents, Marvin Krause and Joyce Hughes; aunts and uncle, Eleanor Newton (Kenneth), Marlene Deskin, and Laura Allen; nephew and nieces, Brett, Taytum, and Claire; many cousins; and special mention to Jerzey and Logan Erickson.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elmer and Telma Edwards; great-grandparents, Herbert and Marguerite Krause and Archie and Percy Reisetter; and step-father, Steve Lowe.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to ALS Association – Iowa Chapter to Team Missy’s Hope or to the family.
