Betty Lou Nippert passed away on December 15, 2016 in Mangum at the age of 89. Betty was born on September 18, 1927 to Odessa May (Harkins) and Hafford R. Hamilton in Tupelo, Oklahoma. At the age of one, Betty moved with her family to Plainview (Erick, OK). Betty started to school at Sunny Slope, a one-room school. After fourth grade, Betty and her brothers and sisters rode the bus to the new Plainview school just completed by the WPA. Betty graduated as salutatorian from Plainview in 1946. She married Junior Nippert on August 24, 1946. Betty and Junior had one son, Gary. In 1953, shortly after Gary was born, they moved from Plainview to Mangum. Betty was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Mangum. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery and playing a good game of Wahoo. She was always ready to go with Junior; whether it be to the farm, to Branson or on Armco business. Betty loved her home and enjoyed sharing it with friends and family. Betty was the second oldest from a family of ten (six girls and 4 boys). She very close to her family, helping raise her younger sisters, “the little girls”. She was especially close to Mother Hamilton and never wanted to be far from her.

Betty is survived by son Gary Nippert and wife Celia of Mangum, OK; brothers: Bob Hamilton and wife Barbara of Purcell, OK and Arleigh Hamilton and wife Pat of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters: Jimmie Ruth Boyd of Cleburne, Texas, Thelma Pender and husband Buddy of Ft. Worth, Texas, Nina Sue Turner of Altus, OK and Sherri Govett and husband Mark of Oklahoma City, OK. Betty leaves a legacy of two grandchildren: Whitney Spillman and husband Cory of Waxahachie, Texas and Garrison Nippert and wife Jessi of Copan, OK; five great-grandchildren: Cooper, Conner and Sophia Spillman of Waxahachie, Texas and Alli and Kashe Nippert of Copan, OK. Betty is also survived by brother-in-laws: Darrell Trammel of Prescott, AZ, Merlin Nippert and wife Patsy of Mangum, OK, Bill Nippert of Mobile, AL and sister-in-laws: Norma Hamilton of Mangum and Kaye Hamilton also of Mangum; nieces, nephews, special friend, Brenda Lehrman and a host of other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Junior, parents Odessa and Hafford Hamilton, sister June Tramell and brothers Wayne and Riley Hamilton.

Church Services for Betty are scheduled for Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mangum with interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum.

Viewing will begin Friday, 2:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m. at the Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home located at 1400 West Main, Lone Wolf, 580-846-9018.
