md 1st Asenath Higley (1791 Ballston, Saratoga Co, NY-1826 Port Byron, NY)
md 2nd Laura Cecilia Harnden (1805 Granville, NY-1892 Port Byron, NY), his 1st cousin.
Samuel operated the Lock Store on the original Erie Canal in Port Byron at one time, and had a livery business there. The store was operated only while the canal ran through the village of Port Byron, not after the canal bed was moved north of the village. He was a harness maker and shoe maker, the trade taught to him by his father and he taught it to his sons. He had lived in Port Byron for 43 years.
