Woman Missing In Mystery; Widow Gone from Home;
Blood Stains; Cord Cut Away
A 64-year-old woman, member of a prominent Lower Valley family,was missing from her Fabens home today and authorities fear foul play.
Mrs. Ruth Holland, a widow, was gone from her home when her maid came to work today. Her absence was under a set of strange circumstances.
Her car was missing. In its place stood another auto. The maid found the house unlocked, which is not Mrs. Holland's habit. Inside she found several drawers left open, as if abandoned hurriedly. Mrs. Holland is a meticulous woman of tidy habits.
SPOTS of what appeared to be blood were found in a bedroom and
hallway. A section of cord from an electric clock had been cut away and taken. The clock was stopped at 3:15.
The maid called the Sheriff's Department. Deputies checked
registration of the car left in Mrs. Holland's driveway and
found it belonged to an El Paso auto firm.
They learned a man had taken the car out for a test drive
early yesterday and never brought it back. Deputies checked
the name he had given, and found that he had falsely claimed to work for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at White Sands Missile Range.
NEIGHBORS reported they had noticed both Mrs. Holland's car and the other one parked before her house at 7:30 p.m. yesterday. Mrs. Holland's missing auto is a gold 1966 Cadillac sedan with Texas license plates CRN351. She is 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 121 pounds and has brown hair and eyes.
The man was described by motor company representatives as probably Italian extractine in his mid-twenties with black hair, well dressed and apparently well educated, with somewhat affected mannerisms.
