Olympic Gold Medalist. She won the gold medal in the discus throw event during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. She graduated from the Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry. During the 1972 Summer Olympics, she broke the Olympic record three times and set a world record at 66.62 meters while capturing her gold medal. Four years later in Montreal, she had her best ever discus throw at 70.50 meters, but only finished in fourth place. She also competed in the shot put event and came in tenth. At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, she failed to reach the final in the discus throw. During her athletic career, she won gold medals at various other competitions. After retiring from competition, she worked as both a dentist and athletics coach in Moscow.
