Joyce received her Bachelor's of Arts degree from Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Joyce went on to attend the University of Chicago where she pursued her master's degree. In 1952, she joined the Air Force as a commissioned officer and achieved the rank of first lieutenant. It was while serving together in the Air Force that Joyce and Joe met; they married in 1954. They enjoyed traveling and visited many areas throughout the U.S. and Europe.
She is survived by her son Patrick J. Hopkins (Laurie) of Ballwin, MO, and daughter Joan F. Hopkins of San Antonio, TX. Two grandsons: Brett and Eric Hopkins, numerous nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff of Sunrise Senior Living of Des Peres for their care of Joyce. Heartfelt thanks go to Madeline and Christina who lovingly took care of Joyce for many years as she fought Alzheimer's disease.
Services: Funeral service at SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to any charity of the donor's choosing. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation at Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory, Tuesday 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.
