Preble County Soldier Killed In Vietnam Battle, SP/4 Edgar Blankenship, 20, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Blankenship, 4735 Falls Rd.., Lewisburg, was killed at 1a.m. Wednesday, March 13, in Vietnam.
Official notification was received Friday by his parents. He was a victim of a heavy mortar attack on elements of Second Squadron 15 kilometers west of Xuan Loc. Edgar was killed and 8 were wounded in the attack. Blankenship was a member of F Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.
A native of West Alexandria area, Blankenship graduated from West Alexandria High School in 1966, He was named a Star Farmer in the Future Farmers of America, and was active in 4-H Club activities for nine years. In 1966 he attended State Junior Leader Camp. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in West Alexandria.
Survivors include his parents, Melvin and Margaret; a brother, Dale, and a sister, Janet Sue, both at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Ott of Eaton, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna Blankenship of West Alexandria. Services are pending.
