They had to move back to the States later that year due to the Mexican Revolution, first returning to Johnson's Creek, in northern New York, where HQ, Sr. preached at Harland Baptist Church, then in 1914 to Pierre, South Dakota, where Hugh Quinn Morton, Jr., was born on December 21, 1915. From there the family moved in 1917 to Bozeman, Montana. and in 1919 to Tempe, Arizona where Hugh Quinn Morton, Sr., was appointed as Executive Secretary of the Arizona Baptist Convention, where Hugh [Jr] began school. In 1926, Rev. Hugh Quinn Morton, Sr. received the call to be the Executive Secretary of the Nebraska Baptist Convention. The family moved to Grand Island, Nebraska."
