Proof is the flag and sign posted beside the stone. Mount Pleasant Cemetery is located at 38101 Mount Pleasant Rd., and the corner of Wilson Rd., Union city, PA 16438 in thee Northeast side of Crawford County PA on the southwest corner of the homestead his son Moses Maine owned. His wife is buried with him. Her stone reads Rabbecca Main. Note the name difference.
The 1850 census says that Nathan was 94 years of age. This means that when he died in 1855 he was 98 and born in 1756. Stone replacement wrong.
The Revolutionary War emblem was placed on his memorial three years before the Daughters of The American Revolution was formed. It was placed there because Nathan survived until 1855 and the members of the John Fisher Post GAR knew him personally. He had told them of his service in the War. I had a running argument with the Crawford County GAR rep, as she just could not comprehend why the memorial was placed.
