Joseph L. Brooks, 72, passed away on December 14, 2016 in West Valley City.
He was born April 25, 1944 in Salt Lake City to William B. and Vica Maie Fellows Brooks. Joe was a graduate of Granger High School. He served an LDS mission to the Southern Gulf States.
He married Sherrie Backman on May 4, 1968. She preceded him in death on April 17, 1998. He married Nancy Friel Brooks on October 7, 1999.
Joe was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to serve and enjoyed his time in the Bishopric and as Scout Master. He truly loved "the boys." He also loved the SLCC family and retired after thirty-two years due to health issues.
Every yard he touched ended up looking like a beautiful park. There were never too many flowers in Joe's world. He never met a child that did not instantly become his friend.
Joe will be remembered for his big smile, contagious laugh, booming voice, and generous service to all.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy F. Brooks; daughter, Gina (Andy) Salmon; grandsons, Justin Brooks and Hayden Salmon; son, Bradley Brooks; brother, Russel (Carolyn) Brooks; and sister Janet Allen. Also, Nancy's children: Angela (Kyle) Holden and Colby (Aniko) Brewer; grandchildren, Hannah, Burke, Lucza, and Zoe; and his adopted Friel and Coons families. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. in the Jordan North Second Ward Chapel, 4270 South Falcon Street (4145 West), West Valley City. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 11:00-11:45 a.m.
Interment will be in the Valley View Memorial Park.
