John A. Rae, 58, was fatally stricken with a heart attack in his West Lafayette home on Wednesday night. He died at 12:45 AM Thursday [July 9, 1964], five minutes after he was admitted to Lafayette Home Hospital. Born in Lafayette, he and Violette M. Gilbert were married on Sept. 28, 1937, at Rochester, IN.
Mr. Rae was a groundskeeper for the Purdue University Athletic Department, where he had worked for 17 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 123, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, Elks 143, and Eagles 347.
Surviving with his widow are his mother, Mrs. Mary Rae of Lafayette; two brothers, James R. Rae and Wilbur Rae, both of Lafayette; and three sisters, Mrs. Louis Rosen of Chicago, IL, Mrs. E.A. McGuire of Lafayette, and Mrs. G.H. Altherr of Kettering, OH.
