Margaret LaVon Kirmer, 86, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.

Margaret was born August 14, 1930 near Offerle, Kansas. She was the third of four daughters born to Daniel and Mary (George) Juttner. Margaret began her schooling in the Windthorst area and went on to graduate from Spearville High School in 1948. She married Harold "Bus" Kirmer on February 22, 1949. Bus preceded her in death on April 23, 2009.

Margaret's life was dedicated to being a loving wife and mother. Margaret was a homemaker and enjoyed a variety of crafts through the years. She took pleasure in sewing for her daughters, painting ceramics and embroidering her tea towels. When her younger children entered high school, Margaret enjoyed working outside the home at The Spearville News in the compilation area of their printing services. Margaret and Bus took many road trips to the Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas areas during her husband's time as the coordinator of delivery services for Feist Publications. They had many stories to share with family and friends about their travels.

Margaret is survived by her five children Kevin (Phyllis) Kirmer, Dodge City, Gail Kirmer, Wichita, Kurt (Gayla) Kirmer, Spearville, Gwen (Kelly) Kulbiski, Dodge City, Mary Lou (LeRoy) Azeltine, Overland Park, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Sidney Hirschfeld, and three sisters; Juanita Powers, Ethel Mae Miller and Dorothy Law.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville, on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM with Father John Forkuoh presiding. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Spearville. Vigil service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Friday, December 16, 2016 at 7:00 PM. There will be a book signing at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the casket will remain closed. Memorials are suggested to Manor of the Plains, Hospice of the Prairie, or St. John Cemetery Fund, all in care of Swaim Funeral Home.
