SSG George Elmer Cannon Sr, Vietnam Veteran, resident of Tarboro, NC.

Staff Sergeant George Elmer Cannon Sr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SSG Cannon served our country until August 6th, 1969 in Bing Thuy, South Vietnam. He was 30 years old and was married. It was reported that George died from undetermined causes. His body was recovered. SSG Cannon is on panel 20W, line 102 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 12 years.

I wish I had known you. The son you never knew-George M.

George was a natural comedian. He won several trophies entertaining the troops. George had 7 siblings and he is missed by all.

He was the Husband of Mrs Gudrun M Cannon, Route 2, 3705 Sibling Place, Tarboro, NC 27886; He is the Son of Mr and Mrs Roy R. Pigg, 611 Howard Road, Tarboro, NC 27886. Father of George M. Cannon.

He served with Kilo Troop, 919th Engineer Company, 11th Armored Cavalry, "Black Horse", USARV.

He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Army of Occupation Medal, The Army Expeditionary Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal(s).
