Specialist Four Lewis Nance was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 Nance served our country until August 24th, 1968 in Bing Doung, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was married. It was reported that Lewis died from multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered. Lewis was born on October 22nd, 1945 in Charlotte, North Carolina. SP4 Nance is on panel 46W, line 006 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 4 years.
Sp4 Lewis Sylvester Nance, 22, of 120 Burton Street, was killed Sunday in Vietnam when he was struck by fragments from an antitank mortar in action near the Cambodian border. Nance attended West Charlotte High School and enlisted in the Army in 1964. He returned to Charlotte after his tour of duty was completed and worked for the Owen Corning Fiberglass Company. He reenlisted in the Army in May, 1968 and left for Vietnam in June. He was assigned to the third Armored Cavalry as a tank gunner. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Sylvia Louisa Nance of the home; his mother and stepfather, Mr and Mrs Mason Currence, and a sister, Andrea Monique Currence, all of Charlotte.
He is the Husband of Mrs Bellivina C Nance, 1520 Burton Street, Charlotte, NC 28206; Son of Mrs Louise Nance, 2742 Phillips Street, Charlotte, NC 28213. He is the Sister of Andrea Currence.
He served as a Specialist Four with Golf Troop, 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry, USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
