Don Flanery May, 66, of Meadowview, Va., was born on June 24, 1950, in Pike County, Ky. the sixth child of Edwin and Geraldine Deskins May, and passed away on December 13, 2016. Coming from humble beginnings he was taught lasting values of faith in God, love of country, hard work, integrity and personal responsibility. He was self-employed in partnership with his father and brother at May Log Co. later becoming May Brothers Lumber Co. which operated in Pike County, Ky. Retiring in 2003, after commuting for 25 years, allowed him many happy days redeeming time with his wife of 48 years, children and grandchildren. Don enjoyed living the Christian life and all its involvements, Bible Study Fellowship, University of Kentucky basketball, rook, people, projects, being a good neighbor and smoking a great Bar-B-Q. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Pamela Wohlford May; four children, Jeffrey May of Charlotte, N.C., Justin May (Shannon) of Winston-Salem, N.C., Jarrod May (Sara) of Bristol, Tenn., and Whitney (Tiana Epps-Johnson) of Chicago, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Parker, Jackson, Katie, Emily, Sarah, Levi, Elijah, Jacob, and Olivia; mother, Geraldine Deskins May of Abingdon, Va.; one brother, Larry May (Botema) of Kimper, Ky.; four sisters, Phyllis Taylor of Johnson City, Tenn., Linda S. Fisher (David) of Lovingston, Va., Erma Thornbury (Alvin) Abingdon, Va., and Mary Markland (Will) of Bristol, Va.; aunt, Nell Taylor of Meta, Ky.; uncle, Linton Deskins of Tipton, Okla.; a host of cousins, and a multitude of people he called friends. He grieved the passing of his father, Edwin May; two sisters, Janice M. Blackburn and Lydia Jane May; dear extended family members and numerous friends. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Damascus, 306 E. Laurel Ave., Damascus, Va. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Greg Alderman and Larry Bays officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Va. Active pallbearers will be his nephews: Greg Blackburn, Keith Blackburn, Brent Blackburn, Rocky May, Garrett May, Colby May, Mark Taylor, and Caleb Markland. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Wood, Preston Holmes, Robert Campbell, Jim Bebout, Roger Bailey, Jack Washburn, Phillip Bledsoe, Jamie Beeghley, Herman Hucks, Mike Osborne, Guy Barrow, Dick Westfall, Vernie Jo Ryan and Brian Mutter. Junior honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Sutherland, Will Worley, Dillian Ryan, Jake Mutter, Mason Campbell and the 3rd 5th grade boys Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church of Damascus.
