In Shannon L. Gilbert's short life she left her mark as a competitor. At a young age she competed in gymnastics for the Bristol Girls Club Gym Team, where she won numerous awards.
She graduated from Bristol Eastern High School in 1997, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and was voted the best female athlete of the year, serving as co-captain for the basketball, soccer, and softball teams.
She was a member of the American Pool Association and served with the Connecticut Army National Guards.
Prior to her illness, she was employed at ConnectiCare in Farmington.
Shannon is survived by her mother and stepfather, Cathy (Dragon) and Sal Ruscitti of Terryville; her father and stepmother, Michael J. and Peggy Gilbert of Bristol; a brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Ananda Gilbert of Bristol; her boy friend, Jerome Jakubiak of Southington; maternal grandmother, Mildred Dragon of Bristol; paternal grandfather, Lucien Gilbert of Bristol; a nephew, Anthony Gilbert of Bristol; and a stepbrother and four stepsisters; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Shannon, we will always remember your free spirit and unselfish ways. Your sense of humor will remain in our hearts. Until we meet again, we love you Shannon with all our hearts.
