Ronald V. Norman 87, of Longmont passed away December 13, 2016. He was born July 10, 1929 to Victor S. Norman and Violet (Aughton) Norman in Venice, California.

In 1947 he graduated from Reno High School and attended the University of Nevada from 1947-1949. He then attended the University of New Mexico and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952.

On June 4, 1953 he was commissioned an Ensign in the U. S. Navy and served aboard a destroyer escort until his discharge in June, 1956. On June 5, 1953 he married Anita Louise Redstrom in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They lived in various places while he was in the navy. In August, 1956 they moved to Fremont, Nebraska where he attended Central Lutheran Theological Seminary. In May, 1960 he was ordained a minister in the United Lutheran Church with a Master of Divinity degree and then served parishes in Dalton, Broadwater and Auburn, Nebraska until 1969 when he attended the University of Denver, receiving his Master's in Library Science in 1970.

Following a brief employment at the Texas State Library in Austin, Texas he became director of the Kearney Public Library in July, 1971 and remained in this position until his retirement in 1992. During these years, a new library building was constructed. Both he, the library board, and the Friends of the Library received the Nebraska Library Association's Distinguished Service Award. He was involved in library activities at the local, regional and state level, served as president of the state Library Association, chair of the Nebraska Library Commission, was editor of the Nebraska Library Association Quarterly and had articles published in state, local and national professional journals. He received a Master's of Public Administration degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1985.

He was active in First Lutheran Church, Kearney and First Lutheran Church, Longmont. In Longmont, he served on the Board of Directors of the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center. He enjoyed theater, opera, travel, reading, and he collected books.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and his grandson Ben Teebken. He, is survived by his wife of 63 years; son Steve (Melora); daughter Jennifer (Jeff); and son Mark (Denise); grandchildren Andrew, Laura (Nathan), Marla (Heath), Siri, Phoebe, Jessima, Gabriella, Mike (Jodi), Ryanne (Caleb) and eleven great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 AM Friday Dec. 16, 2016 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory, and private inurnment at a later time at Ryssby Cemetery.
