Darlene Bryan, age 78 of Bellingham has joined her loving husband, Bob, our father, on March 28, 2009. She was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1930 to Newton and Hazel Dennett.
While attending high school she met her future husband at the skating rink. Darlene married Bob in 1949, who was also raised in Augusta. They moved to California in 1954 with their first child, Debi. After two years they moved to Oregon, and finally arrived in Whatcom County in 1956. Their other children were born in Whatcom County as well.
Darlene held various jobs during her years in Kansas that included working in her father's real estate office, a soda shop, and dress shop, and as a telephone operator. After moving to Whatcom County, she worked security at various stores in Bellingham, helped with election ballots at the courthouse and worked at Walton Beverage. Darlene was a member and past President of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Post 7 for 42 years. She made many wonderful friends during her involvement.
Darlene always had an interest in history, locally and around the world. Her dream had been to visit the pyramids in Egypt. Maybe she'll get that chance now. She loved to dance and even kept Bob dancing while he was in his wheelchair. Darlene and Bob spent many years traveling the U.S. with many return visits to Texas, Arizona and Kansas.
Darlene is survived by her four children, Debi Bryan of Bellingham, Chris Bryan (Letizia) of Ferndale, Mike Bryan (Melinda) of Sedro-Woolley, and Kim Hildahl (Lyle) of Olympia; sister, Twila who resides in Kansas; along with many nieces and nephews and their children.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin; and two sisters, Wilma and Dorothy. The family would like to thank the staff (our other family) at Alderwood for the special care she received. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Greenacres Memorial Park, 5700 Northwest Dr., with a reception to follow at Moles-Greenacres Funeral Home.
