John was born in Meigs County, TN, but lived all his adult life in the Chattanooga area. He moved to Ringgold after his retirement from Combustion Engineering and is a member of the Boynton United Methodist Church. John served in the US Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific.
Survivors include his loving wife of 76 years, Edith Brooks Land; daughter, Brenda (Don) McLeod; grandsons, Scott (Susan) McLeod and Chris (Alex) McLeod; four great-grandchildren, Connor, Lauren, Donnie and Ainsley McLeod.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Randy Walworth officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
The family wishes to thank those who cared for John over the past year, for their kind and compassionate attention and his neighbors who contributed so much to his life.
The family will receive friends 2-4 PM Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
