Poplar Bluff - Mr. and Mrs. D Frank Scott of Poplar Bluff were notified by the Defense Department Sunday that their son, Army Spec. 4 D. Frank Scott Jr, has been killed in action in Vietnam. He was 24 years old.
Mr. Scott said he was informed by the department that his son was killed Nov. 26 during a heavy assault by the North Vietnamese about four miles from the Cambodian border. He had been listed as missing in action since that time.
Spec. Scott attended schools in Chaffee before moving to Bloomfield where he graduated from high school in 1963. His parents moved from Bloomfile to Poplar Bluff four years ago.
He was born Feb. 23, 1945 in Chaffee. His wife, the former Miss Carolyn Clubb, of Linden, Mich, and a three-week old son Stefan Frank Scott, both survive. There were married Jan. 13, 1968 in Bloomfield.
Spec. Scott was serving with the 11th Armored Cavalry, 3rd Squadron of the Army. He had been in Vietnam about five moths and had previously served as a drill sergeant at Ft. Knox, Ky. He had been in the Army the past year.
He attended Murray State University in Murray, Ky, for two years and the University of Missouri at Rolla for a year, before moving to Linden, when he entered the Army.
Surviving other than his wife, son, and parents, is his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Oda Selty of Chaffee. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott.
The body is being returned to the states. Services with military rites will be held in the Presbyterian Church here with the Rev. Donald Newville of Linden, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. James Coates of Poplar Bluff. Burial will be in Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
