William F. Hollis, 86, of Washington passed away at 12:11am Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Unity Point Health-Methodist after a bout with pneumonia.

He was born on May 23, 1930 in Evansville, IN, the son of the late Ray B. and Martha M. Boren. He married Betty J. Rogers on June 6, 1952 in Cynthiana, IN.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Frances (Thomas) King of Springfield, IL; one son, William Christopher Hollis (Daniel Chavez) of Irving, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Alexander Spirios, Sophia Spirios, Ella King and Anne King along with Son-In-Law, Thomas Spirios, Brookfield, IL. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Juliann Spirios, in October of 2011.

He was an honorably discharged U.S. Air Force Veteran. Bill was a 1952 graduate of the University of Evansville. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 30 years, beginning in Decatur, IL and retiring in 1988 from the Peoria headquarters as an internal auditor. Bill was a member of Washington Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed spending time at Kentucky Lake, reading and playing with his grandkids. Bill loved his family and was loved by them.

The family would like to thank the Unity Point/Methodist Hospice Group and the staff and nurses of 7 Hamilton at Unity Point/Methodist Hospital for their compassionate care of Bill and of us.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2016, at Washington Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rebecca Weltmann officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Burial will be at a later date at Liberty Cemetery in Cynthiana, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to Washington Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
