Mr. Ayers was born in Ballard County, Ky., and lived in the Fort Worth area for 43 years.
During World War II, he worked for Lockheed Aircraft in California.
Mr. Ayers was founder of Ayers Grocery Stores in north Fort Worth and Ayers & Sons Tool Sharpening Service in Fort Worth.
Survivors: Wife, Betty Ann Ayers of Fort Worth; four sons, Bural Leonard Ayers Jr. and Ronald Robert Ayers, both of Fort Worth, retired Lt. Col. Maury Maryanow of Montgomery, Ala., and Aaron Maryanow of Birmingham, Ala.; six daughters, Doris Jean Duncan, Wilma Louise Houser and Tammy Joy Maryanow, all of California, Mary Jeanette Bailey of Atlanta, Ga., Bobbie Raley of Sherman and Pearl Lynne Friesenhahn of Converse; brother, Hestel Ayers of Paducah, Ky; 23 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
