Rodney Charles Vaughn, age 60, formerly of Aurora, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at his home in Concord, North Carolina. He was born June 22, 1946 in Aurora, IL, son of the late James Roland Vaughn and the late Lillian Violet (Yates) Vaughn.

Rodney was employed by Americhem, Inc., Concord, NC for 20 years, until his retirement in December 2006. He was a resident of North Carolina since 1990. He was a graduate of West Aurora High School and also a college graduate. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed coaching his son, Robyn, in various sports, soccer, basketball and track and field events. In earlier years, he was also a cub scout leader for his sons.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Bonnie Johnson Vaughn; three sons, Randal (Karen) Vaughn of Mooresville, NC, Robyn Vaughn of Concord, NC and Brian (Patricia) Frey of Algonquin, IL; two daughters, Mollie Bangert of Concord, NC and Wendy (David) Settlemyer of Kannapolis, NC; three grandchildren, Jacob Vaughn, Robert Vaughn and Makenna Vaughn; two brothers, Steven Vaughn of Batavia, IL and Mark Vaughn of Poway, CA; five sisters, Debbie Eckel of Roscoe, IL, Becky Vaughn of Cave Creek, AZ, Sue Tessmer of Rhineland, WI, Lori Spoden of Montgomery, IL and Lisa Pitstick of Sugar Grove, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brett Frey; and a brother, David Vaughn.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, NC. with Dr. Warren Casidy officiating. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Friday, January 12, 2007 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. (704)933-2222.
