Army Confirms Death of SSgt Rambo
The Army Monday confirmed the death of SSgt. Arthur J. Rambo of Libby who was reported missing in action in Vietnam, Nov. 26.
Sgt. Rambo served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and was at a night defensive position when the area came under attack.
He was a 1963 graduate of Libby High School and Carroll College and Notre Dame University. He received a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics and a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering.
He was employed by Texaco, Inc., in Colorado, and was drafted Sept. 1968. Following basic training at Fort Lewis, Wash., and advanced training at Fort Sill, Okla., he was selected for the artillery combat leadership course and promoted to staff sergeant upon graduation. He had been in Vietnam for about three months.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Ryan Rambo, two children, Kerry Lynn and Amy Denise, all of Dillon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rambo; one brother, Dan, and two sisters, Patricia Rambo, and Mrs. Kathleen Backe, all of Libby.
