Leo John Brady, 84, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.

Mr. Brady came to Oak Ridge in 1944 from Henderson, Nev. He retired in February 1980 from Union Carbide Nuclear Division where he had worked as an analytical chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was a member of the American Chemical Society.

He was born in Manassa, Colo., on Aug. 10, 1914, the son of John Jefferson Brady and Ella Rea Holman Brady. He received bachelor of science degrees in chemistry and zoology from Brigham Young University in Utah.

Mr. Brady was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
where he served as patriarch since 1979. He also served in the district presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in East Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia for 17 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Lorraine Jackson Brady; two sons, Kendall Lee Brady and his wife, Barbara, of Oak Ridge, and Michael John Brady and his wife, Margaret of Littleton, Colo.; and his daughter, Linda Switzler and her husband Alvin, of Highland, Utah.

Mr. Brady is also survived by three brothers, Arlo Brady and his wife, Dolores, of Arlington, Va., Reese Brady and his wife, Hannah, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Max Brady and his wife, Edwina, of Manassa; two sisters, Ardeen Garland and her husband, Jack, and Laverne King, all of Manassa; and by 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
