Carol F. (Shearer) Spencer, 73, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016, at her residence following a recent diagnosis of leukemia. She was the wife of Bruce J. Spencer with whom she celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on May 27, 2016.
Mrs. Spencer was born in York on March 1, 1943, the daughter of the late Andrew R. and Jane H. (Corl) Shearer.
Carol was a graduate of William Penn High School, Class of 1961. Now retired, she was a dental assistant for ten years prior to becoming a purchasing agent for the former Galt Controls, Honeywell, P H Glatfelter and York Wallcoverings.
She was a life-long active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, 340 E. Market St., York, and was very active with The WELL Food Pantry in York, serving as a past president.
In addition to her husband, immediate family survivors include one son, Stephen M. Rosenzweig and his wife, Kelly of Glen Rock; a grandson, Andrew S. Rosenzweig and his wife, Corinna (with great-granddaughter expected in December); a granddaughter, Lindsey M. Rosenzweig; and a brother, R. Bruce Shearer and his wife, Joan of North Carolina; two nieces and two nephews and their families.Extended family survivors include three step daughters, Phyllis Spencer, Jane Wenger, Marcia Schwanger, all of Lancaster, and their families. Carol is also survived by her beloved miniature white poodle, Ruby.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016, 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 340 E. Market Street, York, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Officiating will be the Rev. Donald Slaybaugh, Jr. Burial will be private.
