Gary James Maier, 59, of Hewitt, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at his home. Services will be at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, at peace Lutheran Church in Hewitt with Pastors Stephen Rynearson and Donald Olson officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m., Monday, January 15, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Arrangements by Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, Waco, Texas.

Gary was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Aaron D. Maier and Myrtle E. (Ress) Maier. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He returned from Vietnam and earned two Master's Degrees in Educational Supervision and Administration. He and Connie Perales were married in Mission, Texas, on December 20, 1974. He worked in various school districts around Texas and retired from LaVega ISD after 19 years of service. He retired in 2004 and spent the last two years enjoying his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his father; and brothers, Dennis R. and Nathan D. Maier.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Connie Maier; daughter, Donna Tucker, of Austin; son, Gary James Maier, Jr; his only grandchild, William E. Tucker, IV; mother, Myrtle Maier; and many cherished family and friends.
