James W. Harter of Blue Springs, MO passed away December 1, 2016. James was born November 13, 1926 to John and Sophronia (McCoy) Harter. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy in the South Pacific on the Winged Arrow. He married Shirley Howard of Sheffield, England on July 3, 1948. James was a Senior Engineering Technician for Butler Manufacturing Co (Blue Scope) for 41 years retiring in 1988. James was Master Mason at McDonald Lodge, Independence chapter #324. He was former member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Blue Springs, MO. James loved to hunt and fish. Jimmy James and his sister Alice love to share their fond memories of living down south in Willow Springs, MO, during the depression. James was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, parents, 3 sisters and 6 brothers. He is survived by sister, Alice Street, Lake Wylie, SC; 2 daughters, Donna Abernathey (Marvin) of Blue Springs, MO., and Bev Morris (Jim) of Lee's Summit, MO; 2 granddaughters, Ashley McCann (Brian) and Jamie Morris both of Lee's Summit, MO; 2 great-great granddaughters, Lauren and Paige McCann of Lee's Summit, MO, and many nieces, nephews and lots of friends. His roommates, Spot and Cubby Bear will miss their friend. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 10 am at Floral Hill Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, December 5, 2016 from 6-8 pm also at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 14310 E. 42nd ST. South, Unit 600, Independence, MO 64055.
