Martha "Mattie" Jane Rosson was the daughter of Cynthia Morris (1822-1894) and James Monroe Rosson (1820-1904). She was the fourth of six children born to this couple. She attended the Scott Male and Female Institute in Scottsboro. She married Silas Parsons Childress on 27 October 1874 in Jackson County, Alabama.

Mattie and Silas had these children:

Addie B. Childress, born in 1878. She married Robert Parks and is buried with the family in Burgess Cemetery.

Martha Jane Childress, born in 1881. She married Sidney Farris Barclay and is buried in Cedar Hill.

Rutha Isabell Childress, born in 1883. She married William Lorenzo Coulson. They are buried in Burgess Cemetery.

Willie Smith Childress, born in 1885. She married Silas Perry Byrum. They are buried in Cedar Hill.

Maude F. Childress, born in 1888. She married Jesse S. White and is buried in Burgess Cemetery.

Ida Elizabeth Childress, born in 1889. She married Arty Sylvester Page. They are buried in Cedar Hill.

Virginia M. Childress, born in 1893. She married Wiley M. Butler. They are buried in Cedar Hill

Silas Perry Childress, born in 1895. He married Annie May Weeks and by 1920, they are living in Oklahoma. They are buried in Sand Creek Cemetery in Okemah, Okfuskee County, Oklahoma.

Jennie "Johnny" A. Childress, born in 1898. She married Luther Ray Beard. They are buried in Burgess Cemetery.

Her great granddaughter Ann Barbee Chambless remembers her foldly. The family gathered every summer at her house. She owned 80 acres that Patrick Lumber bought from her heirs at her death and built houses in The Meadows and the houses along Byron Road.
