Rebecca was born on December 27, 1921 in Richmond, MO to Earl and Lavinia (Davis) Johnson.
She married Melvin L. Crouch of Farmers Branch, TX on September 12, 1943 in San Diego, CA being married for 63 years.
Rebecca grew up on a farm seven miles north of Richmond. She attended a one room school in Timber Ridge. She later taught at the same school for five years. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1939 and began teaching that fall at the age of 17. She taught in the winter and attended college in the summer. She received her B.S. in Education from CMSU in Warrensburg; later a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the same university.
She retired in 1978 having taught for 28 years. Her last six years as high school counselor. Her greatest love was helping young people plan their futures.
After retirement she took lessons in oil painting and gave many paintings to friends here and in Europe.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her hands were always busy.
She and Melvin enjoyed collecting antiques and traveling.
She first escorted high schools students to Europe with People-to-People. Later on Melvin joined her to escort adults to Europe, Mexico, Canada and Hawaii. She did this for 12 years in the summer.
She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church, Ray County Historical Society and Missouri Retired Teachers' Assn.
Survivors include by one son, Dwight Johnson (John) Crouch and wife, Nancy of Richmond; three step grandchildren; one granddaughter, LeChelle Williams; and two great grandchildren, Jacob and Gavin all of Richmond; one foster son, Russel Clemons and wife, Mary of Longmont, CO and four grandchildren, Angie, Nathan, Aneicha and Jason of Oklahoma City and Dallas; four great grandchildren, Daniel, Mary, Sarah and Waylon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents Earl and Lavinia Johnson and one brother, Earl Johnson, Jr.
