Admitted to the bar June, 1846, in New London, CT, and started a practice there.
Moved to Chicago, IL, in 1853, and remained there until a few months before his death.
"His health suffering from close study and insufficient exercise, he entered the Retreat for the Insane, at Hartford, Conn., on August 22, 1860, and died there of paralysis. He was unmarried."
