From the book "The History of Wolcott", CT 1731 to 1874.On page 468, Elihu Carter marries Mercy Scott on January 29, 1789. She died Nov. 10, 1789. He marries Sarah Hopkins on Nov. 2, 1790. This book lists Mary Carter as a daughter of Sarah who was born on Oct. 29, 1789 but Elihu and Sarah did not marry until 1790. I believe Mercy died from childbirth or complications from having Mary as she died 11 days later.
