Adolph John De Mattei
June 26, 1925 – December 4, 2016
Resident of San Jose

Adolph De Mattei died peacefully on December 4th surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in San Jose to immigrant parents, Silvo and Caterina De Mattei. Adolph grew up playing and working on the ranch with his brother Victor and twin brother Arthur. Here he fostered a love for the outdoors and laid the foundation for his fabulous gardening skills.

As a child, Adolph attended Grant elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High and San Jose High School. He was drafted his senior year of high school and served in the Navy. After the war, he worked for Petroni's Market. It was around this time he met Esther Ferrari and was married in 1951. Their loving marriage lasted until her death in 2009. Later, Adolph had his own vegetable delivery business followed by 20+ years of employment at PW Supermarket where he retired in 1983. He was our own "green grocer" and local resource for gardening tips.

There were numerous clubs and organizations that were honored to have Adolph as a member; YMI, ICF, Holy Names and Retail Clerks Retirees. His service to Holy Cross Church included opening the church 6 days a week for Mass and prayer group. Truly a good man and always outgoing, he took pride in his relationships with friends and family.

Adolph is survived by his two daughters Linda Pfeiffer (Bill), Nancy DeMattei (Wade Hall), his grandchildren Amie Pfeiffer, Jacob Pfeiffer (Brittany), great grandchildren Danielle and Nolan Pfeiffer and his twin brother, Arthur. He leaves behind many loved ones in the DeMattei and Ferrari family.

Services will be held at Holy Cross Church (580 Jackson St, San Jose) on Wednesday, December 14th at 10 am. Burial to follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. Donations to your favorite charity appreciated.
