GREAT FRIEND OF LATE W.A. ELLIS
Anton Strem an old and highly respected citizen of Peshtigo died at about seven o'clock this morning after a long illness of rheumatism of the heart.
Mr. Strem was born January 11, 1839 in Wenersborg, Sweden. In 1864, he married Miss Christina Jacobson and with his wife, came to this country in 1867.
Nine children were born to this union, eight are living, nameley: Mrs. C.J. Lundin; Mrs. Albin Holm; Mrs. Fred Monsen; Mrs. Otto Ellison; Miss Josie and Miss Alma and sons John and Charles O.
A sorrowing wife is also survived.
Mr. Strem was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church and was an earnest worker. He was a staunch Republican and held the position of Postmaster of our town for years. For many years, he was known as the King Leader of the Swedes. He had secured transportation for hundreds of Swedish families to this country. He was in the employ of the late W.A. Ellis and of the Peshtigo Lumber Company. Ever since his arrival in the place, he proved himself to be one of the most faithful friends of Mr. Ellis and one of the best men of the company.
His funeral will be held from the Norwegian Lutheran church at two o'clock January 13th with Rev. Christenson officiating.
