BAIRD -- Alta Maurine Abernathy, age 91, of Baird, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2007 in an Abilene hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Ross Cemetery Annex with Robert Park officiating and directed by Parker Funeral Home.
Alta was born on December 23, 1915 in Putnam, Texas to Ira Baxter Roberson and Lora Cunningham Roberson. She has lived in Baird for 57 years moving here from Putnam, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was Valedictorian of her senior class at Putnam High School and attended Howard Payne College. She married Sterling T. Abernathy in Putnam, Texas on August 28, 1937. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1983.
She is survived by: one son, Ronald G. Abernathy and wife, Shelly of Baird, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Abernathy of Baird, Texas; three grandchildren, Byran Abernathy of San Angelo, Texas, Michele Town of Round Rock, Texas and Amanda Abernathy of Round Rock, Texas; and two great grandsons, Nicholas Town and Kaden Abernathy.
