Rites Dated For Spencer
Federal Worker Succumbs at 70
Funeral for William A. Spencer, 3816 NE Multnomah St., will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rose City Park Methodist Church. The Rev. Roy A. Fedje and the Rev. George A. Pollard will officiate. Commitment will be private. Ross Hollywood Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Spencer died Monday. He was born Jan. 12, 1888, in Philadelphia.
He was with the Bonneville Power Administration for 16 years in Portland. He was with the federal government for 28 years including service with the U.S. Customs Service, Veterans Administration and the Bureau of Public Roads. He also served with the Oregon Historical Records Survey and the Medical Detachment Hospital Corps in France during World War I.
Past Work Told
Mr. Spencer was chairman of the Church Committee of the Oregon United Nations Assn., a local preacher member of the Rose City Park Methodist Quarterly Conference, a member of the Church Committee of Social Relations and a Portland area representative at the San Francisco UNESCO Conference last year..
He made Phi Beta Kappa at Northwestern University where he was an undergraduate student, and received a master’s degree from the University of Washin[g]ton and a bachelor of divinity degree from the Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, Calif.
Survivors include the widow, Gwendolyn; one son, Dr. Alden Spencer, Bethesda, Md.; one daughter, Mrs. Jane Baird, Portland; two grandchildren, and two brothers, Robinson Spencer, Ashland, and Edward M. Spencer, Columbus, Kan.
