Heart Attack Fatal To Harry S. McNutt

Harry S. McNutt, veteran newspaperman who had been with the Oregon Journal for the past 22 years, died at 7 P. M. Friday at Providence hospital after suffering a heart attack a short time earlier.
He had put in a full day at the Journal office before he was stricken at his home near Oak Grove.
Born August 7, 1898, in Belton, Mo., McNutt attended public school there, and later the Universities of Missouri and Montana. He first entered the newspaper field at Miles City, Mont., after serving with the United States army in 1918. There he married Gwendolyn Bratsberg on September 3, 1921, and the young couple came ot Oregon the following year.
Assistant editor of the newspaper's editorial page for the past year and a half, McNutt had covered various beats as a member of the news staff, becoming widely known as a marine editor, which post he held for 12 years. He also acted as assistant city editor and as financial editor, before assuming his recent position.
Active in community affairs, McNutt was a member of the Concord school board for several terms, serving as chairman for one year.
Surviving are his widow, three sons, Harry B, McNutt, with the navy, and Arnold and David McNutt; five brothers, John of Cleveland, O.; Richard, Long Beach, Cal.; Phil, Seattle, Wash.; Fred, Warrensburg, Mo., and George in California, and two sisters, Mrs. Bert B. Bales, Sheridan, Wyo., and Grace McNutt of Belton, Mo.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3:30 P. M. at Portland crematorium, and will be followed by vault entombment.
