An early family history claimed Seth's name was Sythia Short, that she was born in England, parentage untraced or untraceable, but official tribal historian William Deyo says she may have been her husband's first cousin, a daughter of Thomas Harrison and wife who was a daughter of Cockacoeske West, Queen of the Pamunkey, whose brother Maj. John West named her in his will in 1716. Maj. West also mentioned in his will her daughter Seth Lucas Summers and niece Seth Anderson, another granddaughter of Cockacoeske and first cousin of Seth Lucas.
