Mary Elizabeth Rutherford Carlton, 89, of Fort Worth, formerly of Petty, departed her earthly home to enter into eternal rest with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 8, 2016. She died at Mirabella Memory Care in Fort Worth.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at the former Petty Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour before service from 1:00 until 2:00 at the church in Petty.

Mary Elizabeth was born September 12, 1927 in San Angelo, Texas, the daughter of Frank and Lorene Dellinger Rutherford.

Mary Elizabeth (Itsy as she was fondly called by her only sister, Jo Ann Rutherford Parkman) grew up in Petty, Texas; graduated from Honey Grove High School in 1944; attended Paris Junior College. She married Perry L. Carlton on March 14, 1946 at the Petty Methodist Church.

She and Perry lived in Bryan, Texas for many years as well as numerous other places in Texas and New Mexico. She worked at Texas A&M University in the Range and Science Department; and spent her career with the Department of Human Resources as a case worker, retiring in 1989.

She lived in Paris from time to time, being a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church. She had been a resident of the Colonial Lodge.

Survived by four children, Mary Kathryn Rodenberger and husband Mark of Weatherford, Texas; Robert Alan Carlton and wife Sherry of Franklin, Texas; Richard Lee Carlton and wife Gayle of Chester, Texas; and Randall Frank Carlton and wife Regina of Chester, Texas. Her sister, Jo Ann Rutherford Thompson Parkman and her three sons and family also survive her.

Grandchildren Elizabeth Diane Carlton, Amy Kathryn Carlton, Amanda Mary Carlton Miller, Christina Marie Carlton Peterson, Ashley Rodenberger Pagenkopf, Sally Carlton and great grandchildren Rebecca Carlton, Steven Kalke, Kelsey O’Neill, Emilynn Claire, Averly Kathryn, and Maelee Bethany Pagenkopf, Dana Carlton and Richard Blake Carlton, Jr

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Perry Lee Carlton, parents, Frank and Lorene Dellinger Rutherford and her only grandson, Richard Blake Carlton, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Rick Carlton, Robert Carlton and Randy Carlton and Greg Thompson, Mark Thompson, and Todd Thompson.
