In 1977 Mike graduated from Prospect High School and furthered his education at Elon University where he graduated with a Bachelor's in Political Science in 1981. He graduated from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol School in 1984 and was one of few Lumbee Native American Sergeants. Mike attended N.C. State where he received an advance Degree in accident reconstruction specialist for the NCSHP. In 2012 prompted by the tragic loss of close friends in Robeson County, Mike accepted the call into the Ministry of Alcohol and Substance abuse recovery. Soon after, he began the Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous program at Prospect United Methodist Church. As the Ministry grew, Mike founded "Stop the Pain", a community outreach program focused on bringing awareness to alcohol and substance abuse. Mike was so passionate that he remodeled a portion of his family home into a transitional home.
Mike was a devoted Christian and member of Prospect United Methodist Church. He would quickly let you know that he was a die-hard N.C. State fan. "Take the pack". He found joy in racquetball, lifting weights, running and especially Zumba. Mike looked forward to the annual Bolivia mission trip and sponsored a daughter as a missionary. He would always say "God loves the orphanages". Mike experienced a spiritual renewal when he joined the Emmaus community on Walk #69.
Mike's purpose was fulfilled. By changing lives through recovery, Mike honored God's teaching that "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me". Matthew 25:40
Per request of the family if everyone could wear red to support his family.
